        About Us

        About Us

Energy 4 Hope is a registered Non-Profit Company and a proud Circular Energy initiative under South Africa’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for renewable energy products. Established in May 2025, the organisation is committed to transforming lives by delivering sustainable solar energy solutions to communities in need.

Our work focuses on inspecting, testing, and refurbishing solar PV modules and energy storage systems to ensure they meet strict safety and performance standards. Once approved, these systems are donated to schools, community centres, and institutions that require reliable access to clean energy; empowering education, development, and sustainability

Solar PV modules and batteries that do not meet the safety and performance standards are responsibly recycled, aligning with Energy 4 Hope’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. Energy 4 Hope’s mission is to address energy poverty by giving identified communities and institutions access to safe and renewable energy. With light, children can study and play sports after dark, families can live safely, and communities can thrive. By working with local partners, donors and institutions, Energy 4 Hope creates meaningful change where it is needed most—empowering people with energy and illuminating a path to a brighter future.

The Energy 4 Hope Foundation is a Non-Profit Company committed to enhancing the quality of life by delivering sustainable solar energy solutions to underserved communities. The foundation collects, inspects, tests, and refurbishes solar PV modules and energy storage systems, ensuring compliance with rigorous safety and performance standards before donating them to communities and institutions requiring reliable access to energy.

OUR IMPACT

OUR
IMPACT

The Opportunity

In South Africa, many solar farms are replacing solar PV modules and energy storage systems that no longer meet performance standards.

Often, these removed products are resold in the consumer market without proper safety or performance testing.

This poses legal risks and can harm brand reputation for manufacturers and importers, as improper use could lead to injury or malfunction.

Solar panel manufacturers and importers raised concerns about the implications of reselling untested products.

To address this, Circular Energy proposed to create a safety and performance testing methodology for reused solar PV modules and energy storage systems.

Ikhethelo Children's Village

Making a difference

Ikhethelo Children's Village

The first pilot site was confirmed at Ikhethelo Children’s Village. Located in the Upper Highway area of Durban and the Valley of 1000 Hills, Ikhethelo has been supporting at-risk children and families for over 20 years. The village offers a nurturing environment, education, and emotional support to help these children build brighter futures.

Technical Information

Every solar panel holds untapped potential. Built to last over 25 years, many are retired too soon despite still producing clean, reliable energy. By testing before recycling, we can give panels a second life, therefore reducing demand for new materials and bringing light to communities in need.

Energy 4 Hope Project Updates

Reusing solar panels and battery energy storage systems (BESS) offers a powerful way to extend clean energy benefits while reducing waste and reliance on virgin materials. By thoroughly testing and refurbishing panels and batteries, we ensure safety, performance, and meaningful reuse. This approach supports circular energy practices, lowers environmental impact, and opens access to energy for communities in need. Every unit is carefully assessed to meet international standards, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and energy equity.
